Check out the trendy Kandal Village in Siem Reap

Siem Reap is a town filled with cafés and modern stores designed to appeal to everyone, from backpackers to sophisticated expats. But one area that is starting to stand out for its exquisite looking and trendy businesses is Kandal village, located between the old market and the French quarter.

To be honest it’s not really a village, but the Hup Guan Street and its surrounding lanes are being developed as a kind of artsy neighbourhood filled with cafés and interesting shops, hence the name and its new popularity.

Here you can find places such as Trunkh, a concept store with upcycled and cool crafts for everyone (also with a branch in Phnom Penh), the silk-specialized shop Louise Loubatieres, the Buddhist art of Niko’s Studio or the eco-friendly products for body, home (and soul?) of Saarti. On the art side, one of the highlights is the Constable gallery featuring artworks from local and international artists, besides Bridge Art Gallery which hosts wine and art nights on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Trunkh is definitely worth a visit for its cool products made with random materials and quirky designs!

For finding some comfort for your stomach the options are quite diverse and delicious. For healthy snacks and juices head to Hive café, for handmade pasta and organic pizzas try the Mamma Shop Italian restaurant, have some tapas at Ivy guesthouse or go for the fine dining experience while listening to jazz at the French bistro Armand’s. Don’t miss as well the unbeatable coffee at The Little Red Fox café!
